Revenue Share at Rhon Studios: Transparency & Collaboration

A deep dive into how our revenue share model works, the legal framework behind indie videogame development in Spain, and our commitment to a fair and transparent system for all collaborators.

One of the biggest challenges when starting an indie game studio from scratch is finding a way to fairly compensate the talent that helps bring the vision to life before external funding arrives. At Rhon Studios, we address this through a structured Revenue Share model. Operating under Spanish law, specifically relying on the freedom of contract established by Article 1255 of the Spanish Civil Code, this framework defines a civil collaboration without an employment relationship, where both risk and success are shared mutually.

The net profits generated by our projects are distributed transparently:

  • 70% is allocated to the pool of collaborators.

  • 30% is reinvested into the studio to sustain development.

The individual percentages within that 70% pool are determined based on the actual quantity, quality, and complexity of the work delivered. We establish operational measures such as a minimum payout threshold of €10 to avoid administrative friction, and payments are initially made on a monthly basis to support the team. However, to keep our model realistic and ensure long-term sustainability, our terms include specific limits.

The right to receive these payments is tied to the project's actual commercial lifespan; for example, the maximum total compensation is capped at the equivalent of the net profits generated during the first full year of commercial exploitation, ensuring that rewards accurately reflect the game's true maximum commercial performance.

Our goal is to build an ecosystem based on trust and professional growth, giving everyone a share of what we create together.
